Kendall SimmonsFormer NFL star and two-time Super Bowl winner Kendall Simmons will discuss how to successfully tackle diabetes at a free luncheon hosted by King’s Daughters Center for Healthy Living from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10. The luncheon will take place at King’s Daughters Health Education Center Auditorium (lower level of the Lexington Avenue parking garage).

Simmons will talk about his 2003 diagnosis with type 2 diabetes shortly before his second season in the NFL and how he was able to manage his disease and return to the field that same year. He went on to play nearly 10 years after being drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers®.

Now retired, Simmons has partnered with Novo Nordisk, a global health company dedicated to diabetes care and demonstrating that diabetes doesn’t have to sideline a person’s life or ambitions. He hopes his story can be an inspiration to children and others with diabetes.

The box lunch will be catered by Spice of Life in Coal Grove and feature a choice of one of three wraps — grilled chicken Caesar, roast beef or black bean — with sides of pasta salad, fresh seasonal fruit salad, baked pita chips or pretzels with bottled water.

The event is free, but pre-registration is required. Registration is available online at kdmc.com or by calling Kim Bayes, King’s Daughters Lifestyle Coach, at (606) 408-1560.
