Children and parents are invited to blast off for adventure this Thursday with the debut of a new space-themed play area at the Ashland Town Center mall. The new play area is a collaboration between the mall and King's Daughters Medical Center. A ribbon-cutting event with the Ashland Alliance, Ashland Town Center and King's Daughters takes place Thursday, June 9, at 10 a.m.

To help introduce the new play area, King's Daughters will give away free T-shirts to the first 100 kids at the event. There also will be balloon animals from 10 a.m. to noon, and face painting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We are excited to be a partner with Ashland Town Center for a great new children’s play area. Early on, we loved the idea of something that might spark a child’s interest in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) areas,” said Tom Dearing, APR, Integrated Communications director of King’s Daughters Medical Center. “Today’s children grow up to be tomorrow’s nurses, physicians, physical therapists, lab experts - and even astronauts. We see this as an investment in the future of the Ashland community.”
