Know heart attack's early warning signs
Learning the early signs and symptoms of a heart attack enables you to know how to save a life – of someone you love, someone you work with, even yourself.

More than 800,000 people die in the U.S. every year from a heart attack. On average, half of these patients had, but ignored, the early warning signs:

A feeling of fullness

  • Pain that travels down one or both arms
  • Jaw pain
  • Excessive fatigue
  • Anxiety
  • Nausea
  • Back pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pressure, squeezing, aching or burning

The victim may experience any or all of the warning signs. When they first begin, the symptoms can be mild or come and go. Over time, they become worse, until the victim collapses. Be smart. Call 9-1-1 and get to the nearest emergency department for care at the first sign of a heart attack.

King’s Daughters Medical Center has been continuously accredited as a Chest Pain Center by the Society of Cardiovascular Care since 2004 and was the first hospital in the region to achieve this designation.
