“Our three scholarship funds have been in place for many years and criteria was set at the time they were established,” said Leslee McLeod, Health Foundation director. “Ed Monk, founder of the Edna and Mildred Monk Memorial Nursing Scholarship, did increase the recipients last year from three to four students, which doesn’t go unnoticed. This nursing scholarship will now be able to help an additional student during their nursing career, and we can’t thank Mr. Monk enough for his generosity.”

McLeod said many accomplished students submitted applications this year for the awards. “It’s always very tough for our judges to determine the scholarship recipients,” she said. “Our region has been blessed with intelligent, talented and community-minded youth which always makes the field of applications very competitive. We are pleased to award these scholarships and wish these students great success in this new chapter of their lives.”
