Weight loss surgery price reduced for self-pay patients

The self-pay (when insurance does not cover the procedure) price for bariatric surgery at King’s Daughters has dropped by more 30 percent to $11,000. This includes pre-surgery visits, as well as standard hospital, surgeon and anesthesia fees. The previous self-pay price was $16,100. The new cost does not include costs associated with complications, extended hospital stays, or pathology services.

Some insurance providers cover the procedure, but not all. Many patients opt to pay for the procedure themselves to gain the health benefits from a healthier lifestyle.

At King’s Daughters, the team offers the most popular weight loss procedure, the gastric sleeve. The program has three experienced surgeons: Kevin Miller, M.D., Rod Tompkins, M.D., and Tim Wheeler, M.D. The program also features a support team of dietitians, nurses, and exercise experts, and a behavioral health specialist - all available before and after surgery to ensure the best possible results. To get ready for a procedure, the King’s Daughters team has a comprehensive pre-and post-surgery plan to ensure patients are physically, mentally and emotionally ready for weight loss.

“We tell our patients that the surgery is only part of the program,” says program coordinator Tammy Denton, R.N. “The education and continued support from our medical professionals are what makes our program unique and successful.”

The King’s Daughters Weight Loss program is part of the Center for Healthy Living, which also includes diabetic education and a medically supervised weight loss program. The program started in 2003, and has helped more than 4,000 patients to date. To learn more, visit yourhealthylife.org or call (606) 408-1540.
