Emergency Department

King’s Daughters Emergency Department is open 24/7/365 and staffed with board-certified emergency medicine and primary care physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Opened in June 2025, UK King's Daughters' state-of-the-art Emergency Department features 86 treatment areas, including 60 private rooms. Key highlights include:

  • A Provider-in-Triage area for fast care of non-emergent conditions
  • Three isolation rooms for patients with infectious diseases or hazardous material exposures, including decontamination showers
  • Two trauma bays designed to accommodate up to four patients
  • Two dedicated CT scanners located inside the department immediately adjacent to the trauma bays
  • STAT lab
  • Four dedicated private behavioral health rooms with a separate, secure entrance and the ability to expand to accommodate up to eight behavioral health patients
  • Separate ambulance entrance and private work areas for first responders

Designed to enhance patient privacy, comfort, and safety, our new ED reflects our commitment to timely, high-quality emergency care. Our Provider In Triage service helps ensure that patients with less critical illnesses or injuries receive appropriate care in a timely manner.

Certifications & Accreditations

UK King's Daughters has been continuously accredited as a Chest Pain Center by the American College of Cardiology since 2004 and is fully equipped and staffed to handle the most complex of heart attacks.

UK King's Daughters has been continuously certified as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission (TJC) since 2010; has consistently earned American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines, most recently achieving Gold Plus Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus designation along with Advanced therapy from the American Heart Association; and recently earned certification in thrombectomy from the Accreditation Commission for Health Care.
