Vascular Disease Screening

About This Event

  • Event Type:Health screenings
Details:

Vascular disease often has no signs or symptoms ... or presents with symptoms that can easily be mistaken for another health issue.

Tests that can reveal vascular disease are both simple and painless. And now, King's Daughters is making vascular screenings accessible and affordable, with its Vascular Disease Screening program. The screening includes ultrasound checks of the carotid arteries (which provide blood flow to the brain) and the abdominal aorta (the main artery providing blood flow to the lower body), as well as an ankle-brachial index (ABI) of the peripheral arteries (feet and legs).

Cost for the entire series of tests is just $80. Appointments are required and may be made by calling 1-877-304-1935. Centralized scheduling is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday - Friday; 8:30 to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

Participants receive their results on the day of the exam to take with them to their family physician or care provider.

Carotid/Abdominal Ultrasound: This low-cost screening can help detect a blockage, narrowing or weakness of arteries in your neck and abdomen, which could lead to problems such as stroke or abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). The abdominal ultrasound is highly recommended for men who are current or former smokers.

Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI): These blood pressure measurements are taken at the ankles and arms and compared to determine whether there is decreased blood flow to the legs. It also can help detect peripheral artery disease, or PAD. PAD is a narrowing of the peripheral arteries, most commonly in the arteries of the pelvis and legs. One in five Americans over age 65 suffers from PAD, but only about 20 percent get the recommended treatment, according to the American Heart Association.

Cash, checks and credit cards accepted. You may use your Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account to pay for the cost of the screening.
