Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

King's Daughters NICU is one of only five Level-III NICUs in Kentucky

neonatologists Ramon Ymalay, M.D., and Courtney DeJesso, M.D.,

Newborn babies who need intensive medical attention are often admitted into a special area of the medical center called Neonatal Intensive Care Unit or NICU.

The NICU at King's Daughters combines advanced technology and trained healthcare professionals to provide specialized care for our smallest patients.

The 13-bed NICU provides care for newborns born prematurely or with other health problems and also provides intermediate or continuing care for babies who are not as ill but who require specialized care. In addition to specially trained nurses, two full-time neonatologists provide care for premature babies and newborns with special medical needs:

Courtney DeJesso, M.D., earned her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington, D.C. She completed residency at Naval Medical Center, San Diego, Calif., and neonatology fellowship at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D.C. Dr. DeJesso is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Ramon Ymalay, M.D., earned his medical degree from University of Louisville School of Medicine, Louisville, Ky. He also completed residency and neonatology fellowship at the University of Louisville. Dr. Ymalay is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.
