Tammy Denton RN, CDCES

Tammy has been a diabetes educator for 23 years and has been part of the Diabetes Team at KDMC since 2005. Tammy is the coordinator of the Diabetes Program and ensures that the American Diabetes Association National Standards are met and maintained in order for the program to maintain ADA recognition. She is a member of the ADA and Association of Diabetes Education and Care Specialists.

Valerie Ward, RN

Valerie is the newest member of the Diabetes Education team. She worked 13 years as an LPN before obtaining her RN degree in 2018. She began working as a RN in the Heart and Vascular Center at KDMC prior to accepting the Inpatient Diabetes Education Position in 2020.Providing inpatients with essential education of “Survival Skills” that help support their self-management is a top priority. She is also a clinical resource to nurses, physicians and other collaborative team members.

Diabetes Educator

Kimberly Bayes, RN, BSN, CDCES, LDE

Kimberly Bayes, RN, BSN, CDCES, LDE

Kim has been a part of the Diabetes Education team since 2011. Kim is a certified and licensed diabetes educator. she assists in providing education to ensure individuals are aware of self-care behaviors that can improve their management of diabetes.Self-management education includes lifestyle changes, monitoring blood sugar, meal planning, oral and injectable medications, insulin administration, problem solving and physical activity. Kim enjoys helping others meet their lifestyle change goals and preventing complications related to diabetes.

She is a member of the American Diabetes Association and Association of Diabetes Education and Care Specialists.

Registered Dietitian

Christy Morrison, R.D.

Christy Morrison, RD, LD, CDCES

Christy has been a part of the Diabetes Education Team since 2020. She has been a Registered Dietitian since 2005 and obtained her certification in diabetes education in 2011.

Christy provides medical nutrition therapy to people with diabetes and counsels clients in our medically supervised weight loss program and Surgical Weight Loss program. She guides clients to reach blood sugar and weight loss goals by teaching them how to integrate healthy and enjoyable meals into daily life.
