said cardiothoracic surgeon Eric Bronstein, M.D.
The cardiothoracic surgery team uses both minimally invasive and traditional procedures. “We want patients to ask us about all of the available options and techniques,” Bronstein said, “because it’s important for them to be fully informed and understand why a particular surgical approach is best for them.”
“We have every tool here to tailor our care to each patient and do for them exactly what is best for them,” he said.

Cardiothoracic Surgeons Receive Highest Recognition
We’re proud to announce that our UK King’s Daughters cardiothoracic surgery group, Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Kentucky, has once again achieved the highest possible rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS). The three-star rating was awarded for patient care and outcomes in multiple areas for isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedures, placing King’s Daughters among the elite for heart bypass surgery in the U.S. and Canada.
The data reflects the quality of care provided both by surgeons Eric Bronstein, M.D., and Ayodele Osasona, M.D., as well as by open-heart surgery team members, the ICU team, recovery nurses and more.
The latest analysis of data for CABG surgery covers a three-year period, from January 2022 to December 2024.
The STS star rating system is one of the most sophisticated and highly regarded overall measures of quality in healthcare, rating the benchmarked outcomes of cardiothoracic surgery programs across the U.S. and Canada. The star rating is calculated using a combination of quality measures for specific procedures performed by an STS Adult Cardiac Surgery Database participant.
The STS National Database contains more than 10 million surgical records from 6,000 participating physicians, including surgeons and anesthesiologists, which encompass greater than 95% of adult cardiac and congenital heart surgery performed in the U.S.
