Detecting breast cancer with the latest technology
UK King’s Daughters offers the latest in mammography – the
Genius 3D Mammogram from Hologic. Hologic, a world leader in in mammography,
developed the 3D technology, called breast tomosynthesis. 3D mammography
has been clinically shown to find 20 to 65 percent more invasive breast
cancers than 2D mammography alone.
During a 3D mammogram, the machine does a sweeping motion across the breast
and takes 1mm image slices of the tissue. These slices allow the radiologist
to view each individual layer of breast, rather than a shadow of the entire
breast. By looking at each layer individually, the radiologist can detect
abnormalities that could be hidden by overlying tissue in a 2D exam.
3D mammography is most beneficial for first time mammograms, for those
whose previous test results weren’t clear, and for those whose breast
tissue is considered dense.

King’s Daughters Breast Care Center
Located on the second floor of the Center for Advanced Imaging, 2225 Central
Ave., Ashland, our Breast Care Center offers 3D screening and diagnostic
mammograms; breast ultrasound; breast MRI; and digital 3D stereotactic
breast biopsies. Counseling by a certified breast health specialist, DEXA
bone density scanning, and lab draw services are available at the center.
King's Daughters Mobile Mammography Unit
Our mobile unit travels throughout eastern Kentucky and southern Ohio,
providing access to 3D screening mammography at our Family Care Centers,
physician offices, work places and other locations. All testing is performed
by specially trained and certified mammography technologists.
R2 Image Checker
King’s Daughters radiologists use the R2 ImageChecker®, a special
computer program that acts like a “spellchecker” for medical
images to help flag suspicious areas on a mammogram.
Affirm Prone Breast Biopsy System
King's Daughters is proud to offer the Affirm Prone Breast Biopsy System.
Affirm delivers faster, more comfortable procedures by increasing automation,
providing superior imaging and giving 360-degree access to the breast,
creating a better experience for patients.
With high-quality 2D or 3D (tomosynthesis) imaging and a field of view
that's more than 6.5 times larger than older generations of prone bipsy
systems, clinicians can visualize more tissue and pinpoint subtle lesions
and faint calcifications that may not be visible on older systems.
More than 95 percent of patients reported their Affirm prone biopsy procedure
was faster, more comfortable and less painful than expected.
