Neurosurgeons Evin Guilliams, D.O., and Jordan Synkowski, D.O., UK King's Daughters Brain & Spine Surgery.
Neurosurgery
Neurosurgeons specialize in diagnosing and treating problems with the brain, spine, and nerves. They use both surgery and other treatments to help with conditions like brain injuries, tumors, spine problems, and nerve pain. While they are trained to perform very delicate and complex operations, neurosurgeons also work closely with patients to find the safest and most effective ways to improve their health and quality of life—sometimes without surgery at all.
Conditions Treated
Neurosurgeons provide care for a wide range of issues, including:
- Injuries to the head, neck and back
- Conditions affecting the spine, including fractures, spinal stenosis and disc herniations
- Cervical and lumbar radiculopathy (pinched nerves affecting the neck or back)
- Conditions affecting the blood vessels in the brain, e.g., aneurysms, AVM, cavernous malformations and moyamoya disease
- Tumors of the brain and spinal cord
Neurosurgical Procedures
Procedures commonly performed by neurosurgeons include:
- Brain surgery – Removing tumors, repairing blood vessel problems, or treating injuries.
- Spine surgery – Relieving pressure on nerves, repairing herniated discs, and stabilizing the spine.
- Nerve impingement surgeries - Carpal tunnel and ulnar tunnel release; laminectomy and laminotomy.
- Specialized procedures – Including surgery for Chiari malformation, trigeminal neuraligia, and draining excess brain fluid (shunt placement).
